Jimmy Kimmel had to explain himself after supposedly “predicting the future” for the second time in a few weeks when former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani had to be rushed to the hospital in a condition described as “critical”.

The subject came up on Monday’s (4) episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, when Kimmel addressed the fact that he had made a joke about Giuliani just days before he was hospitalized. “When I read [about Giuliani], I really thought, ‘I wonder if they’re going to try to blame me for this,’” the host began in his monologue.

“And then, sure enough, one of these idiot podcasters pointed to a joke I made about Rudy on Thursday, about him being a vampire, and then suggested that I might actually have some inside knowledge of what is going on in Trumptown over there, and then it becomes a thing.”

At the time, Kimmel spoke about Giuliani after the former mayor criticized him over a joke made the previous week about Melania Trump. Kimmel said the first lady had the “glow of a future widow” days before the shooting at the dinner with Donald Trump and the White House correspondents.

In Monday’s monologue, Kimmel said he was even accused by a conservative of operating under the “guise of comedy”. “Every morning, I wake up, make coffee and then look into the future to see what events have not yet happened, and then we write jokes that we know are going to cause trouble,” he joked.

After that, Kimmel addressed the matter a little more seriously and said he hopes Giuliani “lives another 100 years”.
